Washington, D.C. _District of Columbia_ is the capital of the United States. The signing of the Residence Act on July 16, 1790, approved the creation of a capital district located along the Potomac River on the country's East Coast. It had an estimated population of 658,893 in 2014, the 23rd-most populous city in the United States. Although technically located in the South, Washington is a very cosmopolitan city and in fact bears little resemblance at all to the rest of the US. To most Americans DC is a fascinating place to visit, teeming with politics, diplomacy and history. Historical monuments, museums, and government buildings abound in Washington. In the center of the city, you can find the US Capitol building, the museums of the Smithsonian, the National Archives, the White House, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials and more.



  • 1. Lincoln Memorial
    While it is only one of several monuments built to honor an American president, many regard the Lincoln Memorial as the very finest one. Partly because of the beauty of the monument, but also because of the man it is built to honor.
  • 2. The US Capitol
    The US capitol is the home to both the House of Representative and the US Senate, making it one of the worlds most influential and powerful places.
  • 3. Arlington National Cemetery
    The Arlington National Cemetery is one of the very largest cemeteries in whole United States. Veterans from all the nation's wars are buried in the cemetery, from the American Revolution through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
  • 4. Theodore Roosevelt Island
    This island, and its memorial, is dedicated to the 26th President of the United States; Theodore Roosevelt. The known history of the island dates back to mid 17th century, when the Anacostia Indians had been relocated to the island.
  • 5. World War II Memorial
    World War II Memorial is dedicated to Americans who served in the armed forces and as civilians during the Second World War.
  • 6. The White House
    The White House is one of the most renowned buildings in the world, as it is the working office and the home of the President of the United States.
  • 7. JFK Eternal Flame
    The JFK Eternal Flame is one of the centerpieces of the Cemetery. It pays honor to one of most famous of all US presidents, John F. Kennedy
  • 8. Jefferson Memorial
    It is built in honor of the third president of the United States; Thomas Jefferson. The Jefferson Monument is a remarkably beautiful building. The inside of the memorial is rather minimalistic and dominated by a large bronze statue of Jefferson himself.
  • 9. Washington Monument
    Washington Monument is dedicated to and has gotten its name - just like the city it’s located in - from George Washington. The monument lies situated towards the western end of the National Mall area. Washington was the first president of the United States of America.
  • 10. US Air Force Memorial
    US Air Force Memorial is one of many in the area which honors the men and women who served the US military. This one honors the more than 54.000 men and women who have died in combat while serving the Air Force and its predecessor organizations.
  • 11. Iwo Jima Memorial
    The massive Iwo Jima Memorial depicts the raising of the American flag at Mount Suribachi on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima, February 23rd, 1945. The monument is based on the iconic photo taken during the Battle of Iwo Jima in the Second World War.
  • 12. The Pentagon
    The Pentagon is headquarters of the Department of Defense and one of the world’s largest office buildings. It has about three times the floor space of the Empire State Building, which gives an indication of its enormous size.
